Beds for Teenagers

As your adorable little angels grow into potentially less adorable teenagers, you may find that you need to replace their bed for something a little more... mature! Reminiscing back to your "teenage" years, what do you think was the most important entity as a spotty hormone driven teen (besides spot cream)? The answer surely must be having your own 'space' - a bedroom away from nagging, embarrassing parents!

What better way to support your developing, expressive and dare we say it, moody teen than by creating a sanctuary they can retreat to, alone or with their mates (because it's obviously not cool to hang out with the fam anymore!) Their bed will become a place and a destination they'll probably spend far more time in than ever before; chatting, listening to music and sleeping for hours on end like some hibernating creature of a smelly swamp. Sound familiar? (perhaps it's just our kids!?). We have searched high and low for a collection of teenage beds that hopefully even the fussiest teenage boy or girl will curl a slight smile for! We hope you love them.

Top 4 Teenage Bed FAQ's:

Our team of bed experts are on hand to answer any questions, but here are just a few that we commonly receive:

  1. What is a teen bed?

  2. Essentially a teen bed offers something a little more grown up than our range of kids beds. They may be more muted in colour or offer features such as a cabin bed with additional storage or desk, some are daybeds that couple as a bed and a sofa. And we reckon that all of them are worthy of featuring in an Insta pose; so they must be pretty cool!

  3. What size is a teen bed?

  4. Many are a standard single size so you may not need to update or upgrade the mattress as well, but be sure to check the individual dimensions on the product pages as we offer both UK and EU sizes. We also have teen beds sizes that are slightly larger than a small double, offering up a little more space for them to sprawl! A mattress size 120 x 200cm is recommended for these teen double beds.

  5. What are Cuckooland's teen beds made from?

  6. All of our teen timber beds are made from solid FSC wood so not only are you nurturing your child’s development, you are supporting the responsible management of the world's forests. Others are made from metal or melamine - options that are great for keeping clean (if you can fight your way through the clothing mountain first!).

  7. Do you offer coordinating bedroom furniture for teenagers?

  8. Absolutely! Many of our beds have matching furniture items such as wardrobes and bedside tables, our best selling range Dennis by Woood has everything you would need for a complete bedroom makeover!

Teenage Bed Guides & Advice

The Complete Guide to Teen Beds

A bed fit for a teenage boy or girl can take on many dimensions. It’s probably wise to note that a standard single and european single are different in size. That’s why I have put together a table in the blog post to help highlight the different sized beds available.

Top 10 Tips for Parents Buying a Teen Bed for their Teenager:

1. Size and Space: Take a peek at your teen's room size and visualize how much space the bed will occupy. Think about cozy corners and room for activities – a twin or full-size bed might be more appropriate and snug for smaller spaces, while a queen or king could be perfect for sprawling out in a larger room.

2. Team Teen: Time to tag in your teen for this decision-making journey! Sit down together and chat about bed styles, colors, and must-have features. Trust us, involving them in the process ensures they'll feel right at home in their new sleep sanctuary.

3. Future-Proof: Teens grow like weeds, don't they? Consider beds that can keep up with their growth spurts, so we'd always recommend opting for a larger childrens bed as long as the room can accomodate it or look for adjustable frames or options that can accommodate larger mattresses down the road. It's all about making sure their bed lasts through the teenage years and beyond.

4. Comfort is King: Let's talk about the ultimate chill zone – their bed! Look for a mattress that feels like a dream, providing just the right balance of support and snuggliness. Give them the green light to test out different types until they find the one that feels like a cozy hug.

5. Storage Savvy: Ah, the never-ending quest to tame teen clutter! Built-in storage are total lifesavers, offering sneaky spots to stash clothes, shoes, and all those random bits and bobs. Trust us, anything that helps keep their room tidy is a win in our books! And this incredible teen bed with underbed storage is definitely worth a view.

6. Style Squad: Time to unleash their inner design guru! Whether they're all about sleek modern vibes, boho chic, scandi style or vintage flair, there's a bed out there to match their style to a T. Let them lead the charge on choosing a bed that best fits their personality, and hope that they stick to it for at least a few months!

7. Built to Last: Teen life can be rough and tumble, so opt for beds that can handle the chaos! Look for solid materials like sturdy wood or metal frames that can withstand the teenage tornado. And don't forget to check reviews for that extra vote of confidence in durability.

8. Safety Dance: Safety first, always! Seek out beds with smooth edges and rock-solid construction to minimize any potential bumps or bruises. Their safety is non-negotiable, so don't skimp on this one!

9. Budget Buddies: Let's chat about the big B-word – budget! Set a spending limit that works for both of you, balancing quality and affordability. There are plenty of budget-friendly options out there that still deliver on style, comfort, and durability. And if they insist on going for something a little outside the budget... well then that's a fertile ground for having the 'how about getting a part time job' conversation.

10. Dreamy Decor: Let's sprinkle some personality into their sleep space! Once the bed is sorted, it's time to zhuzh up the rest of the room. Think funky throw pillows, cozy blankets, and stylish rugs to add that extra layer of comfort and style. Let them get creative and make their room a reflection of their unique personality and interests. After all, a bedroom isn't just for sleeping – it's their personal haven!

A Better Night Sleep for Teens

Supporting your teen through these challenging years by encouraging them to try and maintain a reasonably healthy sleep routine may be more important than you think. In this article I’m going to explore the importance of sleep for teenagers and how not getting enough sleep can have a detrimental effect on their physical as well as their mental health.

Top 10 Tips on How to Get Teens to Bed and Asleep before 10pm:

Simple, set all the clocks in the house forward by 3 hours. And if this doesn't work (because they have a mobile phones)...

1. Set a Consistent Bedtime Routine: We all thrive on routines, right? Help your teen create a bedtime ritual that's as comforting as a soft word or a warm hug. Whether it's winding down with a favorite book, sipping on a soothing caffeine free tea (peppermint, lavender or camomile works well), or simply chatting about their day, find what works for them and make it a nightly tradition.

2. Limit Screentime/Ditch the Screens: Yep the big daddy of them all.Powering down those devices an hour before bedtime can do wonders for sleep. Instead of horrible disruptive blue light screens, encourage activities that help them disconnect and unwind, like journaling, reading a book or listening to music.

3. Create a Relaxing Sleep Environment: Set the stage for sweet dreams by creating a sleep-friendly environment – think soft lighting, comfy bedding, and maybe even a lavender sachet or two for that extra touch of tranquility. A good quality childrens bed would also be a smart investment.

4. Move Those Muscles: We all know exercise is good for the body, but did you know it's also great for sleep? Encourage your teen to get their blood pumping during the day with activities they love – whether it's knocking a tennis ball around, playing football in the park, dancing in their room, or taking the dog for a walk.

5. Limit Caffeine/Sip Smart: Caffeine – the preferred fuel of teens everywhere. But remind your teen that less is more when it comes to caffeine, especially in the afternoon and evening. Swap out those energy drinks for a cozy cup of scented soothing herbal tea and watch the Z's roll in.

6. Set Boundaries, Stick to Them: Let's talk boundaries – the kind that keep bedtime sacred. Be clear with your teen about the importance of hitting the hay at a reasonable hour, and stick to your guns. Consistency is key when it comes to making the 10pm cut off time work.

7. Lead by Example: Wait, don't stop reading now. Child see, child do, right? Be a sleep role model for your teen by prioritizing your own shut-eye. Show them the importance of responsible sleeping by making it a cool household wind down rule (talk and get excited about the book you'll be reading), and they'll be more likely to follow suit.

8. Encourage Relaxation Techniques/Teach Them to Chill: Life can be stressful, especially for teens. Arm your teen with relaxation techniques like deep breathing or meditation to help them unwind and drift off to dreamland with ease. They may not think that being 'zen-like' is cool yet, but once they've experienced how mindfullness can benefit them, they'll be on the road to well being in no time.

9. Limit Naps: We all love a good nap, but remind your teen that too much of a good thing can disrupt their nighttime snooze. Keep those daytime catnaps short and sweet to avoid tossing and turning come bedtime.

10. Patience is Key: Getting teens to bed at a reasonable hour can be a gradual process, so be patient and supportive as they adjust to new sleep habits. Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither are healthy sleep habits. Celebrate the small victories along the way. With a little time and TLC, you'll have them sleeping like a baby (err, without the waking up and screaming) in no time.
